Doomsday 2012 - Is it the End of the World?

Doomsday 2012 or the 2012 phenomenon is composed of various catastrophic or trans-formative incidents that will occur on December 21, 2012. That date is also said to be the end of the 5,125 years in the Mayan Long calendar.

New Age believers say that during this time, the world may experience a spiritual transformation, and thus interpret 2012 predictions as the beginning, not the end, of a new era. Meanwhile, others say that this date marks the end of the world based on the Book of Revelations. Among the possible scenarios that would end the world include the planet's collision with another planet (called Nibiru), black hole explosion, or the coming of the next solar maximum. In anticipation of the coming of that day, some people even launched 2012 official countdown.

The Mayan Calendar was constructed around 250-900 AD by an advanced civilization called the Mayans. The Mayan civilization was advanced during their times because they were skillful in writing, construction, and urban planning. Mayans are also famous for their pyramids and intricate buildings. In addition, the Mayans were avid users of calendars and considered time as spiritual cycles. The calendars that they used were short, combined each of their calendars, and created the 5,125 years Mayan Long calendar. Is there a connection between the end of their calendar and the end of the world? According to scientists, there is not enough bases that something bad, or Doomsday, would occur when the long calendar runs out of date.

The coronal mass ejection from the sun is one of the predictions that might occur on December 21, 2012. In 1859, the same catastrophe happened, when a solar storm occurred, which brought about failures in the telegraph systems in North America and Europe. The same event is predicted to occur in the year 2012, along with huge massive power blackouts and wreckage of satellites.

Another prediction is the explosion of black hole. When it happens, the cosmic ray waves from the black hole may cause massive and destructive tsunamis on the planet.

Is Doomsday really the end of the world? When something ends, many people assume the extreme possibilities of ending. However, according to archaeologists, the Mayans predicted an age of enlightenment when 2012 comes. Global destruction, Aztec end of the world, and Mayan Long calendar prophecy have no real basis. There was no mention of Doomsday in any Mayan literature. In fact, scholars from various disciplines have already dismissed the idea of cataclysmic events happening in 2012. This is just similar to the Y2K fear that occurred in the late 1990s according to NASA.

The Doomsday 2012 prediction has been talked about for decades. One side views it positively while the other side translates it into global devastation. No one can really know what will happen until that day arrives.
